In
January 2008, the Bellemont Bahá'i School's conditional use
permit with the Coconino County, Arizona Building and
Environmental Health Departments expired and had to be
renewed. When the new permit was issued plans for
the construction of a new kitchen and ramada were submitted for
approval. The old kitchen and ramada were quickly
demolished and removed that summer; but it took two
years to get the plans approved before work on the new
buildings could begin. On July 28, 2010, the plans were finally
approved and construction began the first week in August. The
photographs below will take you through a few of the stages in
the progress of this major Bahá'i project as improvements to
the school facilities unfolded. A note of
special interest: Abdul-Baha visited the Esslingen Baha'i
School during his visit to Germany in 1913. The mother of two
members of the Flagstaff, Arizona Baha'i community saw the
Master preparing to board his trian in the Stuttgart Railway
Station. She later became a Baha'i and raised her daugthers in
the Faith in Stuttgart before they moved to Flagstaff. Because
of their association with the school in Esslingen they were
instrumental in acquiring the Baha'i owned property in the
Bellemont area in 1957.
